A balance used for small laboratory samples and a platform scale used in production may require different request information. Start with the weighing task: what is weighed, the loads normally used, and the decision made from the result. Capacity alone does not describe the entire requirement.
Prepare a short equipment list containing
- Manufacturer, model, serial number, quantity, maximum capacity and displayed resolution, including different ranges where applicable.
- Typical working loads, units, smallest quantity important to the process, and the relevant acceptance specification.
- Platform or pan dimensions, installation location, access restrictions, and whether the equipment is fixed or transportable.
- Available manufacturer instructions, previous certificates, internal checks and any recent movement, repair or adjustment.
- Required certificate details, preferred timing and whether results before any adjustment are important to your investigation.
Discuss which performance characteristics and loads are relevant. Repeatability and the effect of placing a load in different positions are examples of matters to clarify, rather than universal instructions to perform an identical test on every balance.

Accreditation status for each instrument and range is confirmed by TEQ at quotation stage. The full accredited parameters and ranges are listed in TEQ’s current EGAC scope schedule. TEQ accreditation.
Frequently asked questions
Is the built-in adjustment function a complete calibration record?+
Do not assume so. Ask what was checked, which reference was used and what documented results are available.
Does one certificate establish suitability for every weighing task?+
Compare its reported loads and uncertainties with your actual use and acceptance requirements. Ask about any separate legal verification requirements when applicable.
